Founded in 1961, Michigan Center Assembly of God was in danger of closure in 2002. With a new pastor in place and a quickly growing team to join the handful of folks who were still faithfully serving, the church began to turn around. By the fall of 2004, the church, which by then had changed it's name to simply, The Assembly, had outgrown the old facility and moved to a series of temporary locations. Finally in the summer of 2005 the church landed in downtown Jackson after the purchase of the old Furman's building at 140 East Michigan Ave. Today you will find a vibrant community of followers of Christ and seekers. The church has grown around the principles that all people should feel welcome in church and have the opportunity to experience God's grace, wrestle with the unchanging truth of God's Word, and experience God's power and presence. OUR VISION What if the church was the physical demonstration of God's invitation, "Whosoever will may come"? What if God spoke His grace through our actions, relationships, words, and work? The Church would be a safe place for people to meet God and learn to know Him. What if the church could be a place where the highest value was placed on Truth...God's revealed Truth, the Bible? What if there was grace to wrestle with this Truth...to handle it...to let it soak in and permeate who we are and how we relate to our Maker? What if we, the church, lived everyday inviting and making room for God's presence and power? What if the words of Mark were true of us, "signs and wonders follow those who believe" because we were daily being filled with the Holy Spirit of God. We would pray without ceasing and believe God to do and be everything that said He would do and be. What if the church really believed that Jesus invested authority in us to go and make disciples in every nation? What if we really believed that our prayers change the course of history? What if we believed these things and decided to make it the purpose of our lives to see God's kingdom come and His will be done? How would our city change...our world change...How would the generations alive at this moment change? It may always be a work in progress...we may fail at times while trying...but we are resolved that this is our course. We are becoming the church that Jesus Christ has called down the ages for...that He will return for...We are becoming the church that looks like Him.
